“ My fiance said this was the best bread she had ever had. It was truly spectacular. The service was fine. It was typical of a place in the Ironbound, nothing that went above and beyond. The ambiance feels very local and small business, which we seek out. We would rather support this than a Dunkin' any day of the week. ”
“ In an area of Newark (Ironbound) where coffeeshops are a dime a dozen, this is another great option. It is pretty central in Iron bound located right on Ferry Street about 5 blocks away from Newark Penn. All the Portuguese bakeries in the area serve pretty much the same thing, so it is all about the quality of the bread, pastries, and the barista making your coffee and lattes. Went with the galão, which is Portuguese for latte and some coconut pastries. Pastries were super fresh and most likely made the day of, and the latte came out perfect. They didn't burn my coffee which is always great lol They have an intro room and also a bigger back room with a bit more privacy so seating is not a problem here. Solid choice for coffee and sweets in the Ironbound. ”
“ Bustlin' in the mornings but line moves quick. On out second visit, we finally tried to dine in. We got their ham and cheese panini (you choose what bread you want and we got the Pao de Agua), beef empanada (which was good!), hot coco and their cappucinno. The sandwich was delicious and fresh. Bread was nicely done and overall everything was simple but worked really well. Empanada had good amount of meat too. Next time i'll try their cheese and the chicken. Hot coco was a tad sweet but the cappuccino was surprisingly good. There was just that "comfortable" taste to it it kinda reminded me of home coffee. And of course we had to take some pastries to go. We got their egg tarts and custard bun (not sure if its the correct name really) and enjoyed every piece! Being in their Bakery made me feel like I went to a mini vacation in Portugal! lol hopefully soon we'll eventually get to visit but Pao Da Terra will suffice for now! lol ”
“ Stopped in here yesterday. Everything was amazing. I got some type of Portugese roll that was off the chain. If I'd have known how good they were, I'd have got a dozen. ”
“ Its bakeries are top notch. I love its portuguese egg tarts. They are wonderful and super tasty. Love to come back to this place again! ”
“ The staff was very helpful explaining the different types of pastries as I was unfamiliar with the many choices. Each selection was delicious and reasonably priced. ”
“ After having dinner in Newark with my family we decided to stop for coffee and dessert in a bakery on Ferry St. Pao Da Terra is a fantastic option for breakfast, lunch, or just coffee and a pastry. We tried lots of goodies, natas, bolo de Berlin, orange custard cup, and coffee! All fresh and delicious. I also grabbed some bread and that was fresh and delicious. The coffee was great too, strong and hot. The obvious problem here is parking - we ended up parking two blocks away but it's worth it. It's definitely worse on weekends but the fresh pastries speak for themselves. ”
“ Pão da Terra has become one of our favorite bakeries whenever my partner and I are in the Ironbound section of Newark. We stopped by here after having lunch yesterday two blocks away for some Portuguese pastries. Fresh baked bread and a huge choice of pastries are baked using their wooden stove. One should not leave without trying their pastéis de nata (Portuguese egg custard tart) which we got a couple with an apple tart and sugar cinnamon corn muffin top. Their egg tart wasn't too sweet but flavorful. The crust had just the right crunch and chewiness towards bottom center. It may seem a bit intimidating at first since everyone is speaking Portuguese but they do cater to English and Spanish. If you are in the area, grab a few things to take home and you'll be glad you did. ”
“ Lovely neighborhood joint with great Portuguese egg tarts. That's the only thing I tried. During the pandemic they had several tables for outdoor seating not sure how it is lately because of winter weather. $1.50 per egg tart. ”
“ Came here in August, curious to compare to my favorited pasteis across the street ;) So0o I got 4 different kinds of treats to try! Pasteis de Belem or what I've heard is also called pastei de nata or also Portugese egg tarts... theirs has a more torched look to it with a gel like shine, but they don't taste burnt at all-- it definitely distinguishes them from their neighbors. It's hard to discern which is better because I have no credential to say haha All I know is that it also is flaky, chewy & has light sweeet soft center. There is also a pastei de belem that has a pie-like thick crust with the same filling. This one is a dry dense crust, not soft & flaky as the original. Not my preference honestly. Now the chocolate topped pastry can be a heavy solo meal haha... It's got 3 layers: custard, a light cream & thick chocolate. It also got a pie-like thick crust. I like simplicity tho And lastly, there is pastry that is shaped like the nata but is a hefty dense rice pudding-like cake with cinnamon dust... it's got areas of dryness but in the center is somewhat moist. I'm not a fan of rice puddings, but if you are this could be a thing for you! Each can ALLLLL be paired nicely with a nice hot latte no matter what the weather, like today it was 90 degrees & got a hot latte that is helping me down this whole box myself bahaha cheers to a fat Kat! ”
